World Wetlands Day

[ On this day in 1971 the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) was signed in the Iranian City of Ramsar. The Ramsar Convention is an intergovernmental treaty which provides the frame work for national action and international cooperation in protecting wetlands. It aimed at raising public awareness of the value and benefits of wetlands.]

Earth Day

[On this day, in 1972, the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment was held in Sweden . The meeting called upon the world community to work towards “development with destruction”.]

World Population Day

[World Population Day was first observed in 1987 when the Earth's Population reached 5 billion. In 1988, the Governing Council of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) designated that the Day be observed on July 11 each year to build awareness of population issues and their role in development and environment.]
16th September

International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone layer

[In 1994, the UN General Assembly proclaimed September 16 as the International Day for Preservation of the Ozone layer, commemorating the date of the signing, in 1987, of the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the Ozone layer. Countries were invited to devote the day to promote activities in accordance with the objectives of the Protocol.]

National Pollution Prevention Day

[This day make a remembrance of the Bhopal Disaster of 1984 that killed thousands of people in Bhopal , Madhya Pradesh, following the accidental release of Methyl Isocyanate (MIC) from Union Carbide Chemical Plant located in the city. This event remains as one of the worst industrial disaster in history.]
